Great Auk Wireless Expanding Wireless Footprint in Southern Vermont
Brattleboro Deployment Underway, LastMileNetwork Acquired
Brattleboro, VT Brattleboro’s Great Auk Wireless has been busy expanding its high-speed broadband wireless network. Adding to the more than 200 subscribers in the Lake Dunmore region, Great Auk Wireless, has recently purchased LastMileNetwork and with it, the two broadcast towers located on Stratton and Equinox Mountains. Additionally, Great Auk has “lit up” the Putney Road business district and is in the process of deploying the Great Auk Wireless network on Main Street in downtown Brattleboro offering businesses a broadband wireless option deployed by a local provider. Future acquisitions may include a hot spot deployment company and wireless network augmentation company making Great Auk Wireless the single source for wireless solutions.
According to Josh Garza, Chief Executive Officer at Great Auk Wireless, “With Great Auk Wireless, we’re able to offer businesses and residents a local wireless Internet service option at a cost that makes broadband access, let alone wireless broadband access, available to everyone. Subscribers will be able to connect to the Great Auk Wireless network anywhere the wireless network exists. But what’s making this really exciting is the reaction we’re getting; people are really excited about a broadband option that’s local and wireless. Especially in areas where other options, like DSL and cable may not be available.”
Residents and businesses in the Lake Dunmore area have been enjoying the benefits of the Great Auk Wireless network, an area that likely would not have had broadband access, for more than a year. However, unlike the Lake Dunmore area, businesses on Putney Road, one of Brattleboro’s most trafficked areas, now have more options when it comes to choosing high-speed broadband Internet service providers. Great Auk Wireless has “lit up” Putney Road, representing the completion of Phase I of a three-phase rollout slated for downtown Brattleboro. Next up is Main Street, where a few last minute details are being worked out before full deployment can be completed. The company also has plans to acquire a WiFi hot spot company that can facilitate day-to-day operations and add value to hospitality businesses, government agencies and educational institutions. Great Auk Wireless also has plans to acquire a company that focuses in wireless systems augmentation, providing greater bandwidth and speeds to existing networks. The goal: a single source wireless solution.
Great Auk Wireless offers local businesses and residents a wireless high-speed broadband option to cable or DSL services, if even available, for as little as $10 a month. With Great Auk Wireless, users will be able to “cut the cord” and move about town on the same wireless network included in the $10 monthly access fee. For businesses with greater broadband needs Great Auk Wireless has options that deliver up to 3,000Kbps on a static IP address.
The minimal environmental impact, lower cost and speed of deployment of high-speed wireless Internet access, versus DSL or cable, make Great Auk Wireless the ideal Internet service provider for rural areas in desperate need of high-speed service. The Great Auk Wireless network is designed to defy rough terrain and topography using standard broadcast technologies such as 802.11b and 802.11g ensuring a fast, secure and reliable broadband wireless networks.
